Governors

Local Governance

There are approximately 380,000 school governors in England – the largest volunteer force in the country. High-quality governance has a significant impact on how well a school is run and what it's pupils can achieve.

As part of the REAch2 Academy Trust, like all other schools in the trust, Norton Canes Primary Academy has a local governing body (LGB).

What is the role of the Governors?

There is a scheme of delegation, which details how the LGB should work. The Local Governing Boards overriding responsibility is to work in partnership with the school leaders to promote continuous improvement in the performance of the school. The Governing board is there to be a ‘critical friend’ who can provide the right balance between supporting and challenging the performance of both the Headteacher and the school ensuring that the school is delivering good education for all the children and providing value for money.

How does the governing body work?

There are normally six to eight meetings a year which involve the full governing body.

They are provided with reports from the Head Teacher, other members of staff and from the various committees about the work they have been doing. They ask questions, comment on proposals, offer advice and act as a sounding board for ideas. The governing body objective is always to arrive at the best solution for the school.

Each Governor is responsible for monitoring an area within the school, for example special educational needs.

Our School Governing Body is made up of the following members:
