Reception PE!

Pupils in Reception have PE each Wednesday.  Please ensure that pupils come to school in their PE kit (white t-shirt, black shorts and trainers) and that earrings have been removed.  We aim to have PE outside as much as possible pupils are also encouraged to wear tracksuit bottoms and a warm jumper over the top of their usual kit.

Let's Read!

Reading is really important in Reception. We aim to encourage children to look at pictures, ask questions and retell stories in different ways. We love to read! We believe it is important to build a real love for reading by regularily sharing stories during school time and at home. Each week children visit our school library and swap their books which they take home and share with their family.

These are our Mini Mission stories that we have read and enjoyed!

Here are some of Mrs. Colwell's favourite stories. Click on the book covers to hear them!

                                      We Love Dance!

Magic, Mixtures and Potions Dress Up Day!

Phonics!

As a school we follow the Ruth Miskin 'Read Write inc' reading scheme.

'Read Write Inc. Phonics is a whole-school approach to teaching literacy for children aged 4 to 9 that creates fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers.'

In Reception children have daily phonics sessions where they learn new sounds. Children will then begin to segment and blend the sounds they know and read simple words, these are called 'Green Words'. Children will also learn words that they cannot initially 'sound out' these are called 'Red Words'. Children will then move on to read 'Red Ditty' books and simple sentences. Each week children will bring home a phonics books so that they can practice blending and reading which will support children becoming more fluent readers.

What does homework in Reception look like?

Children will have new homework every Friday and we ask for this to be returned on the following Wednesday.

Each week children will take home homework that is based on a skill they have been learning that week in either Maths or Literacy.

Marvellous Me is a brilliant home-school communication app that Reception use weekly in school to inform parents and family members about what children are learning about that week. It is also brilliant to send messages straight from the teacher to parents to inform them of any class activities or special dress up days. We can send school badges and stars for positive behaviours that have been shown throughout the day and parents can join in by replying with a 'thumbs up' to daily activities.
