Let's Read!

Reading is really important in Reception. We aim to encourage children to look at pictures, ask questions and retell stories in different ways. We love to read! We believe it is important to build a real love for reading by regularily sharing stories during school time and at home.

World Book Day 2022!

Phonics!

As a school we follow the Ruth Miskin 'Read Write inc' reading scheme.

'Read Write Inc. Phonics is a whole-school approach to teaching literacy for children aged 4 to 9 that creates fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers.'

In Reception children have daily phonics sessions where they learn new sounds. Children will then begin to segment and blend the sounds they know and read simple words, these are called 'Green Words'. Children will also learn words that they cannot initially 'sound out' these are called 'Red Words'. Children will then move on to read 'Red Ditty' books and simple sentences.

Diwali 2021!

Reception have had the best week learning about Diwali. They enjoyed the Diwali Dance Workshop where they acted out the story of Rama and Sita. We also made Diva lamps out of clay and explored Diwali celebrations and traditions.
